Coursework-only
Option
The Coursework-only
Option requires that students complete coursework satisfying the requirements
defined by the Credit Distribution Table, the breadth requirements stated
above, and successfully pass an M.S. Degree Final Examination.
| MS
Coursework Only Option |
For students taking
the Coursework-only Option, there are two ways to satisfy the M.S. Degree
Final Examination requirement. The first is to take the Ph.D. Qualifier
Exam and pass at least at the M.S. Degree Final Examination level (a score
of one (1) out of a possible three (3) on the exam).
The second way
is to submit a written document used in part to fulfill the requirements
of CS5974 Independent Study. The instructor
for CS5974 must meet the Departmental requirements for a research advisor.
An individual coursework-only student has a 3-person final examination
committee composed of his CS5974 instructor and two members appointed
by GPC. These three individuals examine the written document and then
determine whether the student passes or fails the MS degree final examination.
