Admission
to the Masters Program (MS)
The Computer Science faculty
have designed a Masters of Science (MS) degree that provides a solid
foundation in computer science while still offering flexibility to
meet the needs and interests of individual students.
The MS degree is completed
through either the Thesis or
the Coursework-only option.
The Thesis option provides students with an in-depth research experience,
and requires fewer courses. At the end of their program, Thesis students
defend (and typically publish) their masters thesis. Coursework-only
option students take a larger number of standard courses and normally
do a 3-credit Independent Study
project.
The MS program ensures
that students acquire a breadth of knowledge in computer science but
also allows individual students to specialize or focus in their areas
of interest. Coursework-only
students are required to take at least one course from five different
areas; thesis students must take courses from four areas.
For more detailed information,
see the departmental Masters Degree
Requirements.
